National plaintiffs’ law firm Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, LLP, has hired Wesley J. Dozier for its Nashville office.

2. VUMC helps develop first COVID-19 pill -

U.S.-based pharmaceutical giant Merck& Co. is seeking authorization for the first oral antiviral pill to treat COVID-19, after a Vanderbilt University Medical Center clinical trial showed it cut the risk of hospitalization or death in half when given to high-risk people during infection.

20. Franklin Synergy opens new location -

Franklin Synergy Bank will open its newest branch in Franklin, 5040 Carothers Parkway, Suite 109 in the Carothers Crossing development.

21. Compass launches in Nashville market -

Compass, which touts itself as a real estate technology company, has announced its entrance into the Nashville market.

The company welcomes eight agents/teams, which collectively represent more than $135 million in collective sales volume. The agents come from Synergy, Village, Zeitlin Sotheby’s, Parks and Chateau Properties.

Green & Little, L.P., real estate investment and development firm based in Gallatin, has named Anderson Green as vice president. 26. Clarksville lands auto battery manufacturer -

ATLASBX Co., LTD, will locate its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Clarksville. The global automotive battery manufacturer will invest $75 million and create approximately 200 jobs in Montgomery County.

27. Middle Tennessee's $1M-plus residential transactions for 2017 -

There were 735 homes selling for $1 million or more in Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford, Sumner and Wilson counties in 2017, according to Chandler Reports.

Davidson County had the most with 386, followed by Williamson (316), Sumner (21), Wilson (10) and Rutherford (2).

Vanderbilt University Medical Center has begun operating and providing clinical services at 14 retail health clinics within Walgreens stores located across Middle Tennessee. The law firm of Baker Donelson has named Ashby Q. Burks co-chair of Baker Ober Health Law, one of the largest health law practices in the country.

Burks will serve as co-chair of the group alongside Julie E. Kass, a shareholder in the Firm’s Baltimore and Washington, D.C., offices, assuming the role previously held for 10 years by Philip McSween, who has recently been named executive vice president and general counsel for TeamHealth.

54. Tennessee auto industry hits the accelerator: Nissan, GM, VW find ‘best employees’ here -

Five years after the Great Recession rocked the nation and nearly destroyed auto manufacturing in Tennessee, the Midstate’s industry is booming again.

Nissan’s growth is no small part of that, largely because of the company’s confidence in the state of Tennessee and Gov. Bill Haslam, according to José Muñoz, executive vice president of Nissan Motor Co. and chairman of Nissan North America, which is headquartered in Franklin.

When Urology Associates bought land on Charlotte Avenue to build a new facility in 1999, the two dozen members of the physician group signed for the loan with personal guarantees.

For years, Rivergate Mall has the shopping destination of choice for Sumner County residents.

But an ambitious development proposed in the early 2000s could solve Sumner’s retail problem, as well as bring in new office space, dining and mixed-use residential. Indian Lake Village, a development on more than 400 acres, began construction in 2002. The land had previously been owned by one family, in their possession since the Civil War.

Home sales in the Nashville region showed strength in October, thanks to first-time and move-up buyers rushing to move into their new houses before the holidays and the onset of winter weather.
