Park rangers and volunteers will present a variety of programs through Jan. 2 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Stones River, including a living history program presented by nearly 300 volunteers. Home-Staging Professional Course. Students can earn the ASP designation by attending this two-day course Aug. 14-15. Students will also view a slide show of before and after photos of what can be accomplished through staging and experience staging a home on the market with other class participants. Happy Birthday, President Jackson! President Andrew Jackson’s 245th birthday is celebrated at The Hermitage. A ceremony honoring the President and general will take place at 10 a.m. at Jackson’s tomb featuring Gov. Bill Haslam as keynote speaker. The ceremony will include the Tennessee Army National Guard Color Guard, music, speakers, and the laying of a wreath on General Jackson’s tomb sent by the President of the United States. Live on the Green’s third season begins Thursday with a unique collaboration between Nashville-based artist K.S. Rhoads and the Nashville Symphony. The performance is the first in a free, six-week concert series taking place Thursday nights through Oct. 13 at Public Square Park (Metro Courthouse). 22nd Annual Franklin Jazz Festival, Saturday and Sunday, has the distinction of being not one of the longest-running and best jazz festivals in the Southeast. In addition to providing musical entertainment and food, the festival helps to raise awareness and money for the non-profit organization GEAR foundation. Watkins ‘Conversation’ Faculty Show. Watkins College of Art, Design & Film presents Conversation, a mixed media exhibit featuring works from faculty artists Shepherd Alligood, Dan Brawner and Ron Lambert, from today through Sept. 9 in the Brownlee O. Currey, Jr. Gallery on campus. The exhibit’s opening reception today, 5:30-8 p.m, is free and open to the public. The Civil War in Posters: 150 Years Later. Exhibit opens at Watkins College of Art, Design & Film presents an exhibit investigating the sesquicentennial of the War Between the States. The show, at the Brownlee O. Currey, Jr. Gallery on campus, is collaboration between Watkins Graphic Design students and Hatch Show Print. The exhibit’s opening reception, on Thursday, August 11, from 6 to 8 p.m., is free and open to the public. Exhibit runs through Aug. 23. ‘Wild Impressions’ Art Auction. The Nashville chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers will be offering their annual “Wild Impressions” Animal Art Auction tonight at the Nashville Zoo’s Jungle Terrace. The after-hours event (6:30–10 p.m.) will include food, beverages and more than 50 paintings created by elephants, tigers, macaws, giant anteaters and more. Tickets are available for $25 per person and all proceeds benefit Australian rainforest recovery efforts. Information: nashvillezoo.org.

Intellectual Property Seminar. The law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC will present on Thursday the second in a series of seminars focused on the basics of intellectual property issues for advertising and marketing professionals, this installment focusing on copyright. Cheekwood Summer Nights Party is set for Friday at Cheekwood Botanical Garden & Museum of Art. The Nashville Film Festival, one of the longest-running film festivals in the country, is celebrating its 42nd year through April 21. Each year, nearly 23,000 people come to view more than 250 films from 48 countries, including documentaries, narrative features, animated and experimental shorts. Panels and workshops are also offered for those looking to enrich their knowledge beyond the screen. Major award winners from both the 2010 Cannes and 2011 Sundance Film Festivals will show at this year's festival. All films shown at Regal Green Hills Cinema.
