Third annual Arts Immersion, presented Thursday by the Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville in partnership with The Nashville Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, showcases dance and theater, surprise musical guests and film reels from the Nashville Film Festival, as well as visual art from some of Nashville’s finest painters and photographers. Cheekwood will be the setting for a series of Friday night events this summer, each taking place on the first Friday of each month through October. 11th annual Children's Picnic
Friends of Warner Park will host the 11th annual Children's Picnic, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Warner Park Nature Center on Highway 100. The event will feature live music, arts and crafts, as well as nature-related fun and games targeted toward families with preschool and younger elementary children. Activities include face painting, puppet shows, nature related crafts, live bee demonstrations, scavenger hunt and hikes. Children will also have an opportunity to take seeds to plant at home. Tennessee Antiquarian Book Fair
More than 50 booksellers from more than 12 states are expected to participate in the fair, which will include lectures by authors and scholars. Creative Capital Workshop
The Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville presents the Creative Capital Workshop for artists in the Nashville region at Belmont University. Partially subsidized by a grant from the Kresge Foundation, the workshop is an intensive two and one-half day retreat led by nationally renowned arts professionals that has been described as a “crash course in self-management, strategic planning, fundraising and promotion” for artists of all creative genres. Shaker Collection at Frist
Gather Up the Fragments: The Andrews Shaker Collection, an exhibition featuring more than 200 objects, including furniture, drawings, household objects, textiles and baskets from one of the country’s most renowned Shaker collections, will be on view at the Frist Center’s for the Visual Arts. Wood ‘Twinstallation’
Local earth artist David Wood is featured in a special ‘twinstallation’ at Cheekwood. Double Heliotrope consists of two pieces, one on land, and one on water - each part of a broader heliotrope series of horizontal radial wooden sculptures. One of these pieces, entitled Awakening, has a long modernist poem written by the artist inscribed on it. The other work, Reflection, will sport reflective Mylar circles and nocturnal solar illumination.
