The Chargers (5-3) — winners of two straight and three of their last four — allow a league-low 12.6 points per game. They are also the sixth club since 1990 and the first since the 2019 Patriots to allow 20 or fewer points in each of their first eight games.

That comes after sales fell 1.1% in January, dragged down in part by inclement weather.

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks rose to more records Friday after a highly anticipated report on the job market bolstered Wall Street's hopes that interest rates may soon get easier.

The S&P 500 climbed 0.5% to set an all-time high for a third straight day following Thursday's pause in trading for the Fourth of July holiday. The index has already set 34 records and climbed close to 17% this year, which is only a little more than halfway done.

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — Davis Diaz gave Vanderbilt the lead for good with a two-run single in the third inning and JD Thompson pitched six strong innings to lead the eighth-seeded Commodores to a 4-3 victory over No. 5 seed Mississippi State at the Southeastern Conference Tournament on Thursday night.

NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee State has hired seven-time WNBA All-Star Candice Dupree as the Tigers' new women's basketball coach.

Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet told Pius Suter to keep shooting. Suter did just that, and it paid off.

Suter scored with 1:39 left and the Canucks advanced to the second round of the NHL playoffs with a 1-0 victory over the Nashville Predators on Friday night in Game 6.

The Tennessee men’s basketball team had time to go back to the drawing board after its poor performance in the SEC Tournament. The Vols won’t have the luxury to do the same in their next postseason tournament. A loss there would end the season.

SEATTLE (AP) — Throughout its current points streak, different stars for Nashville have taken their turns carrying the Predators on a given night.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Filip Forsberg broke a tie early in the third period and also had an assist to help the Nashville Predators beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-2 on Sunday night for their fifth straight victory.
