1. Get it while it’s hot ... and still exists -

Nashville’s dining scene has never been more vibrant, with the Convention & Visitors Corp. tracking more than 200 new restaurants popping up over the past few years.

At the same time, however, as we hear more news about beloved neighborhood haunts closing their doors (rest well, McCabe Pub) or facing an uncertain future (welcome back, Arnold’s? For now, at least?), it’s good to be reminded of some of the fixtures, both decades old and relatively new on the scene, that could be classified as Nashville staples.

Nashville Lawn & Garden Show. The 23rd annual Nashville Lawn & Garden Show celebrates through Sunday the timeless appeal, importance and fun of gardening. Gardens Past, Present & Future is the theme in 2012 for Tennessee’s largest and most popular annual gardening event, staged at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. More than 250 exhibit booths will offer horticultural products and services, outdoor living décor, gardening equipment, plants, flowers and more. The Hermitage, home of President Andrew Jackson, presents its annual haunted after-hours tours most tonight. The lantern-led tour, open to 15 guests (ages 10 and older) at a time, run about 90 minutes, covering the mansion, garden, cabin and cemetery area, and offer a uniquely spooky look at the 1,120-acre national historic landmark. 7 p.m. Information: thehermitage.com/events, 889-2941, ext 243.

19th annual “Haunted Trails of Horror” at the Franklin Recreation Complex. 6:30-9 p.m. today. This family event is not for the faint of heart, and parents should know their child’s spook factor before participating. Admission: $5 (cash only); free for children 3 and younger. The Nashville Film Festival, one of the longest-running film festivals in the country, is celebrating its 42nd year through April 21. Each year, nearly 23,000 people come to view more than 250 films from 48 countries, including documentaries, narrative features, animated and experimental shorts. Panels and workshops are also offered for those looking to enrich their knowledge beyond the screen. Major award winners from both the 2010 Cannes and 2011 Sundance Film Festivals will show at this year's festival. All films shown at Regal Green Hills Cinema. The 37th annual Tennessee Prayer Breakfast is set for Thursday, 7-8:30 a.m. at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena. Richard Stearns, president of World Vision, American Idol finalist Melinda Doolittle and the Nashville Choir will be featured. Gov. Bill Haslam, Lt. Gov. 10. Sundance Film Festival rides into Belcourt -

The Belcourt Theatre will become an outpost for the Sundance Film Festival 2011 on Thursday with the screening of “Letters from the Big Man.”

The 7 p.m. exclusive screening is part of Sundance Film Festival USA, a program that introduces the Sundance Film Festival experience to film-loving audiences across the nation. The film’s director, Christopher Munch, will attend the Nashville screening and participate in a post-screening Q & A session. The Belcourt Theatre is the only venue in the South and one of only nine venues in the country selected for this initiative.
