'Digital rapture'

Hollywood is forcing drive-ins, independent theaters to go digital (at $75,000 per screen) or go away

Barry Floyd and wife Dawn were watching The X-Files movie in 1998 at the now-closed Sumner Drive-In Theater in Gallatin. It was something they had done many times while they were dating, but this night something was different.

Is digital better on the big screen?

Belcourt Theatre is part of an art house film group that plans the Art House Convergence conference every year in conjunction with the Sundance Institute. Digital conversion has been a hot topic at the conference as more and more theaters make the move.

Final season for old ‘iron giants’

THE WORLDLY INVESTOR

Big economies built by small businesses

While consumption expenditures account for 71 percent of our economy, investment activity (essentially delayed consumption) determines the magnitude of future consumption. When the economy generates a high level of investment activity, business productivity grows, innovations flourish and new employers create jobs. For these activities to occur, business owners must be willing to take risks. Within the U.S. economy, 65 percent of net new jobs created between 1992 and 2010 came from companies with fewer than 500 employees. In the U.S., as goes small business, so goes the economy.
