NASHVILLE (AP) — Economic development officials say eight counties have been chosen to participate in a state program that evaluates properties for future industrial use.

Tennessee's Department of Economic and Community Development says Fayette, Humphreys, Lawrence, Maury, Scott, Unicoi, Van Buren and White counties have been selected to participate in the Select Tennessee Property Evaluation Program.

The purpose of the program is to improve the inventory of industrial sites and buildings in Tennessee by evaluating potential properties, advising counties on where investment may be most beneficial and what is needed to address issues in planning for industrial development.

Selection was based on demonstrated local need for industrial properties and the county's ability to assemble viable properties with market potential.
