NASHVILLE (AP) - All isn't lost for consumers hoping to buy their first bottle of wine at a Tennessee supermarket on July 1.
An effort to give stores special permission to start taking wine deliveries before the new law goes into effect collapsed this week over an unrelated provision seeking to impose a two-license limit for liquor stores owners.
When pro-competition lawmakers defeated the cap on liquor store ownership, Republican Rep. Curry Todd of Collierville withdrew the remainder of his bill from consideration.
But on Thursday, Republican Rep. Jon Lundberg of Bristol took over another bill left dormant when Ryan Haynes left the House to become Republican Party Chairman last year.
Lundberg plans to amend the bill to only apply to the issue of wine deliveries to supermarkets.
