NASHVILLE (AP) - Radnor Lake State Park in Nashville has been named Tennessee's top state park.
The Tennessean reports (http://tnne.ws/1nPEyha) that Radnor Lake was named park of the year by Tennessee State Parks. It's the highest award for Tennessee's 56 state parks.
Radnor Lake conducted 636 programs for 16,337 visitors in 2015. Rangers became certified canoe instructors, participated in birds-of-prey training sessions and took training on sensitivity for visitors with special needs.
The park added 33 new acres, updated and renovated the displays at the visitor's center, and opened a new aviary and observation deck on the lake.
A news release says parks nominated for the award have demonstrated excellence in areas including sustainability, interpretation, resource management and "fiscally responsible operation of the park."
