Nashville Japanese Film Festival

From horror to anime to documentaries, Japanese film is known for its inventive storylines and beautiful cinematography. In its second year, the Nashville Japanese Film Festival aims to bring a wide range of Japanese films to both seasoned veterans and those brand new to foreign films. The festival will take place at the Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, beginning with a reception at 6 p.m. on August 28. There will be eight films over three days. General admission is $10 per film, with four being shown free of charge with the support of the Japan Foundation and the Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville. Courtyard Concerts

Sara Sant’Ambrogio, a Grammy Award-winning cellist who has played Carnegie Hall and with symphonies across the U.S., is featured at this week’s concert at the downtown Nashville Public Library. Concerts are scheduled for every Tuesday, 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. through Oct. 6. They take place in the Robinson Courtyard, located on the second floor of the Main Library, 615 Church St. Attendees are invited to bring their lunch. Additional shows feature:

  • Sept. 8: The WannaBeatles, an award-winning band that pays tribute to the legendary British bards.
  • Sept. 15: Jonell Mosser sings Americana and soul.
  • Sept. 22: Andy T Nick Nixon Band plays a hard-driving mix of blues, gospel and R&B.
  • Sept. 29: Jerry Douglas and Friends. The dobro master will welcome Viktor Krauss on bass and Christian Sedelmyer on violin to play a mix of bluegrass and more.
  • Oct. 6: Revolfusion. This Latin concert will mark Hispanic Heritage Month at the Main Library with a mix of samba, salsa and merengue.
