Two longtime Vanderbilt University Medical Center nurses are starting the year in new leadership positions with greater responsibilities for nursing education and advanced practice, respectively.
Chris Wilson, MSN, R.N., has been named director of Nursing Education and Professional Development. She previously held the position in the interim and was director of Clinical Education and Professional Development for Vanderbilt University Hospital.
Kapu
April Kapu, DNP, APRN, ACNP-BC, has been named associate nursing officer and VUMC advanced practice director in the Office of Advanced Practice.
Kapu was previously assistant director of Advance Practice Critical Care at Vanderbilt University Hospital and is an associate professor of Clinical Nursing.
Their new roles will stretch across the entire Vanderbilt medical enterprise, from the adult, children’s and psychiatric areas, both inpatient and outpatient, to relationships throughout the Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network.
Wilson is celebrating 25 years at Vanderbilt this year, while Kapu has worked at Vanderbilt for more than 10 years.
Krause

Kathie Krause, MSN, R.N., has been named chief nursing officer of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. Krause, who began her nursing career at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 1984, returned to her new role in January. She has served as chief nursing officer and vice president of Patient Care at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis for seven years.
Ginny Moore, DNP, APRN, has been named director of the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Specialty Program at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN). She has served as interim director of the program since August 2014. Moore has been a VUSN faculty member since 1991 and became an assistant professor in 2014. She also served as the director of the school’s Office of Lifelong Learning from 2002 through 2009.
INSBANK adds assistant controller
Demonbreum
Nashville-based INSBANK has hired Maya H. Demonbreum as assistant controller.
Demonbreum is responsible for supporting the accounting and finance functions for INSBANK while also providing financial and regulatory support for the bank’s mortgage subsidiary, Finworth Mortgage, LLC.
Demonbreum brings more than 10 years of experience in the financial sector to INSBANK. Previously, she served as assistant controller and assistant vice president at Reliant Bank. Demonbreum earned her bachelor’s degree in finance from The University of Alabama, Birmingham and is currently pursuing an MBA at Lipscomb University.
Tennessee Latin American Chamber names board
The Tennessee Latin American Chamber of Commerce has promoted Dalila Duarte and Karla Vazquez to senior board members and elected Karla Chavez and Gilberto Martinez as junior board members.
Duarte, a first-generation college graduate (Loyola University) of Cuban and Mexican descent, is a former public school teacher who now serves as the Southern regional coordinator and education trainer at From the Heart International Educational Services (FTH).
Vazquez, also a first-generation college graduate (Lipscomb University) and a native of Mexico City, is the development coordinator for the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC).
Both are former junior board members of TLACC, which sets aside two director slots for college students.
Chavez is a graduate of Volunteer State Community College and is enrolled at Lipscomb University, where she maintains a 4.0 grade-point average and expects to graduate in May. She is a communication and design intern for Hospital Corporation of America.
Martinez, an Antioch High graduate currently enrolled at Western Kentucky University, owns Wallflower Lawn and Landscaping Company and is a board member of the YMCA Latino Achievers program in Nashville.
Cheekwood welcomes 14 new board members
The Board of Trustees of Cheekwood Botanical Garden & Museum of Art has recently announced the addition of 14 new board members and released rosters for two newly-formed advisory councils.
The new board members will serve three-year terms expiring December 31, 2018. They are: Grace Haiwon Awh, Lee Blank, John Bryan, Chris Cardwell, Lee Carter, Barbara “Babs” Tinsley Freeman, Gary L. Hawkins, Eric Helman, Jim Hunt, Sandra Lipman, Joelle Phillips, J.R. Roper, Dudley White and Maureen Wylie.
Cheekwood also formed a new Alumni Council composed of past board members, and a new Business Council featuring a dedicated group of community business leaders.

WPLN news director elected to TCOG board
Bugg
The Tennessee Coalition for Open Government recently elected Anita Bugg, news director for WPLN, Nashville Public Radio, to its board of directors.
Bugg has worked at WPLN since 1995, holding roles of Morning Edition host and assignment editor. She fills the board seat representing Tennessee Associated Press Media Editors.
Bugg is a member of Society of Professional Journalists and Public Radio News Directors, Inc. She graduated with a bachelor’s of arts in journalism from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, where she worked for commercial stations and discovered her first public radio “home” with WKMS.

Akrawi
Blind Akrawi, associate at Neal & Harwell, PLC, has been selected as a member of the 2015 class of Fellows, participating in a landmark program created by the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity to identify, train, and advance the next generation of leaders in the legal profession.
Akrawi’s practice focuses on civil and criminal litigation. He also represents individuals and corporations in government investigations. Prior to joining Neal & Harwell, he was the Tennessee Assistant Attorney General – Civil Litigation & State Services Division. Previously, he was Assistant Public Defender, 22nd Judicial District, in Columbia, Tennessee. He is admitted to the United States District Court of Appeals, 6th Circuit, and the United States District Courts in the Middle, Eastern, and Western districts of Tennessee.
He earned his J.D. in 2003 from Vanderbilt University School of Law and holds degree in political science in 1999 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Bland
LBMC Investment Advisors has named Derek Bland as partner.
Bland has more than 10 years of experience in public accounting and financial advisory services, and joined LBMC Investment Advisors in 2008. He works with clients in the areas of investment strategy development, asset allocation planning, integration of investments with tax planning, and in-depth portfolio analyses.
He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he earned his undergraduate degree in business administration and majored in accounting.

Lovin, a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner, has over seventeen years of experience in commercial litigation and valuation matters involving a variety of industries.
