Vanderbilt Victory Celebration. Fans, players and coaches will celebrate Vanderbilt's College World Series championship tonight at 6 at the school's soccer/lacrosse field, with access on the east side of McGugin Center. Parking is available in the Medical Center lots located at the corner of Natchez Trace and Jess Neely Drive. The team is expected to return to McGugin Center around 1:30 p.m. today.

Summer People’s Law School

People’s Law School is a free program that provides an overview of legal issues that a typical person might face. Taught by Legal Aid Society attorneys and volunteer attorneys, the weekly, one-hour classes will be held 6-7 p.m. on Thursdays at Cohn Learning Center, 4805 Park Ave., and at Wright Middle School, 180 McCall St. Coming up in June:

  • June 26: Basics of Consumer Bankruptcy. Explains the different kinds of bankruptcy, who qualifies for them, what bankruptcy can and cannot do and tips on choosing a bankruptcy lawyer. (Cohn)
  • June 26: How to Live in the U. S. with Permission. An introduction to the terms and concepts of U.S. immigration law, ways that people immigrate to the U.S., complexities and recent developments in immigration law and how to avoid potential scams. (Wright)
  • July 10: Renter’s Rights. Learn your legal rights as a renter and how to assert them, what to look for in a lease, how to get your landlord to make repairs, how to get back your security deposit and more. This class will be held in Room 112. (Cohn)
  • July 10: Social Security Options. How to apply for and get Social Security retirement, disability, spouse and child payments, Medicare health insurance, Supplemental Security Income disability and old age payments. (Wright)
  • July 17: Medicaid for Nursing Home Care and Home Care. Covers how to get TennCare/Medicaid to pay for home and community-based services or care in a nursing home. (Cohn)

2nd annual Nashville Predators Craft Beer Festival

Craft brews, food, games and entertainment. General admission tickets, $50, are good for entry into the beer festival, souvenir glass, unlimited tastings, a voucher for an upper bowl ticket to a Monday-Thursday Predators home game in September or October, excluding Opening Night. GJCC March Art Exhibit

The Gordon Jewish Community Center’s June art exhibit features the work of Yenny Walker-Zarama, Ken Walls and Florian J. Ceglarek. The exhibit, which will be open throughout the month of June, will open with a reception for the artists and public on June 11 at 7 p.m. with music by DJ Spun Counterguy. There will also be a special traveling Israeli art and jewelry exhibit taking place from June 10th – 14th.

Hallowed Ground: Lantern Tours of Stones River National Cemetery

Stories taken from the letters and diaries of men who fought and died in the Civil War will be presented this summer at the Stones River National Battlefield in Murfreesboro. Park rangers will conduct hour-long walks by lantern light through the Stones River National Cemetery. Additional cemetery tours will be offered July 5 and July 19 at 7:45 p.m., August 2 at 7:30 p.m., August 16 at 7:15 p.m. and August 30 at 7 p.m.
