WASHINGTON (AP) — House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi says the White House is reporting more than 7 million people signed up for health care through the exchanges by Monday's midnight deadline.
Pelosi confirmed the milestone after meeting with President Barack Obama on Tuesday.
The number could climb. People who started applying but couldn't finish before the deadline can have extra time.
Obama plans to present updated numbers during a Rose Garden appearance later Tuesday.
Crossing the 7 million threshold was a major victory for Obama's health care law. That initial target was thought to be unattainable by most experts due to computer glitches at the start and end of the six-month open-enrollment period.
