Environmental Council to plant 10,000 trees in Midstate

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Environmental Council is planning to plant 10,000 trees on Saturday.

The council has connected dozens of volunteers with 10 tree-planting sites throughout Middle Tennessee in hopes of planting the trees in one day.

The effort is targeting stream-side zones alongside waterways identified as polluted streams by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.

Environmentalists say planting trees along the streams improves the health of the waters by increasing natural vegetation and shading, and decreasing erosion.
