NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Transportation Department is halting highway construction for the busy holiday travel period.
No temporary lane closures will be allowed for construction on roadways beginning at 6 a.m. on December 24 to 6 a.m. on January 2.
Officials say work crews may still be on site in some construction zones, so they're asking drivers to obey all posted speed limits, particularly in construction areas.
Drivers convicted of speeding through work zones could be fined as much as $500.
Officials estimate at least two million drivers will be traveling Tennessee roadways during the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
