The
Tennessee Education Association has named Carolyn Crowder as its new executive director.
Crowder comes to Tennessee from Denver, where she served for the past four years as executive director of the combined Denver Classroom Teachers Association, Denver Association of Education Office Professionals and DCTA-Retired.
She previously served as president of the Oklahoma Education Association and as a member of the executive committee of the National Education Association. In this latter role, she helped set NEA policy and travelled the country providing support to NEA members and affiliates.
Crowder began her career in education as a vocal music and elementary teacher in Oklahoma City and Mustang, Okla. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK, and her master’s degree in education from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmund.
TEA, the state’s largest professional association of educators, has over 40,000 members in school districts and on college campuses across Tennessee. As TEA executive director, Crowder will provide leadership to a staff of 54 who work in TEA headquarters in Nashville and in UniServ districts across the state.
Nashville Public Television announces 2013 board
Nashville Public Television has named six new members to its board of directors, replacing those members that have retired from the board.

Onlife Health selects VP of Coaching Center
Onlife Health, Inc., has named David Wheeler vice president of Coaching Center operations.
In this position, Wheeler will be responsible for leading and overseeing the performance of Onlife’s Coaching Center, which includes clinical and corporate quality, clinical research and development, training and professional education, and onsite services teams.
Prior to joining Onlife Health, Wheeler served as director of clinical operations for Carewise Health, where he was responsible for strategic and operations leadership and spearheaded numerous strategic initiatives for the company. Prior to Carewise Health, Wheeler served as director of Medicare and pharmacy at Humana, Inc., where he guided an action-oriented team of internal consultants that supported Humana’s Medicare and Pharmacy call center operations.
Wheeler has an MBA with an emphasis in team management and customer operations from Webster University and a bachelor’s degree in management with an emphasis on customer-based management from Nova Southeastern University.
Dodson Parker adds new associate
Nashville-based law firm Dodson Parker Behm & Capparella, PC, has added Elizabeth Sitgreaves as its newest associate. Sitgreaves will focus her practice on litigation, municipal law and general business advice.
Sitgreaves was previously a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Frank G. Clement, Jr., of the Tennessee Court of Appeals, serving four years as the judge’s Senior Clerk. Her legal experience also includes clerking for the Tennessee attorney general’s office and an internship with the Knox County district attorney.
She attended the University of Tennessee College of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude and served on the Tennessee Journal of Law and Policy. Prior to law school, Sitgreaves was a presidential scholar at the University of Georgia, where she received her B.A. degree in political science magna cum laude and also served on the University Judiciary.
Institute of Medicine honors Vanderbilt’s Clayton
Vanderbilt University’s Ellen Wright Clayton, M.D., J.D., the Craig-Weaver Professor of Pediatrics and professor of Law, has won the David Rall Medal from the Institute of Medicine for “exemplary” service to the Institute.
Clayton currently is a member of the Executive Committee of the IOM Council and the Report Review Committee, as well as chair of the IOM’s Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice (BPH). She has served on 10 report committees, chairing four.
An internationally respected leader in the field of law and genetics, Clayton also is co-founder of the Vanderbilt Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society.
She was elected to the IOM in 2006 and to the IOM Council in 2009. In 2012, she was appointed to a three-year term as chair of the BPH, which studies issues such as vaccine safety, health disparities and reducing environmental and occupational hazards.
In addition, two members of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center staff have been elected to the Institute of Medicine. They are:
Vanderbilt University’s Mark Frisse, M.D., MS, MBA, Accenture Professor and director of Regional Informatics. Frisse, also a professor of Biomedical Informatics, focuses on the intersection between health care informatics, economics, policy and health care transformation. He led development and oversight of a six-year, government-sponsored effort to create and operate a health information exchange for the greater Memphis area. The exchange currently has more than 7 million records covering the care of more than 1.2 million people.
Vanderbilt University School of Nursing’s Betsy Weiner, Ph.D., R.N., senior associate dean for Informatics. A board-certified registered nurse, (RN-BC), Weiner is a fellow of both the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and the American Academy of Nursing. She joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 2000 after serving for 21 years at the University of Cincinnati.
With more than 1,900 members, the IOM is the health arm of the National Academies, serving as an adviser to the nation to improve health and promote health-related research.
DVL announces two new hires
DVL Public Relations & Advertising has hired Ken Whitehouse as account supervisor and Christina Pawlowski as media buyer.
Whitehouse, a former political and investigative reporter, will focus on crisis management, government relations and public awareness. He has also previously worked on political campaigns across the country.
He earned a political science degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., and attended The George Washington School of Political Management at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Pawlowski comes to DVL with 12 years of advertising experience. At DVL, she will be responsible for planning and buying all broadcast, print and digital media.
Pawlowski holds an advertising degree from Western Kentucky University.
STAT Solutions expands, adds senior coding auditor
STAT Solutions has broadened its line of medical coding services and added to its service team. The STAT Solutions team, which is certified by the American Academy of Professional Coders and has been serving customers for 13 years, offers coding and billing options tailored to an individual practice’s needs.
Joining the STAT Solutions team is Kathi Carney, who brings nearly 25 years of health care experience to the company as senior coding auditor. She recently worked as a medical coding instructor for New Horizons in Albany, New York, and supervisor of professional billing services for Northeast Health Primary Care. She also served as a billing administrator, billing manager and office manager for various practices in the New York area.
Carney received her associate’s degree from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York. She is a member of the American Academy of Professional Coders and past president of the New York State Capital District Professional Coders.
Edgens, Taylor join Pinnacle Financial Partners
Kara Edgens and Brenetta Taylor have joined Pinnacle Financial Partners as client service center specialists.
Edgens brings an eight-year career from Regions Bank, where roles included serving as a head teller and financial service specialist.
Taylor brings 22 years of financial services experience and comes most recently from UBS Financial Services, where she was a client resolution specialist.
Both Edgens and Taylor are based at Pinnacle’s Financial Center in Murfreesboro.
Lifepoint names Clark VP, assoc. general counsel
LifePoint Hospitals has promoted Jeremy Clark to vice president, associate general counsel. Clark will provide legal support for all employed and recruited physicians.
Clark is responsible for the legal aspects of all physician employment and recruiting matters throughout LifePoint’s hospitals, including the negotiation and drafting of agreements, practice acquisition coordination, employment issues, day-to-day support for the physician services department, and active participation in company-wide healthcare reform initiatives, including membership on the Provider Alignment Committee.
Prior to joining LifePoint in 2006, Clark served as corporate counsel at Community Health Systems.
He earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School.
