Delta eliminates more jobs, more flights

MEMPHIS (AP) — Delta Air Lines is eliminating more jobs and cutting additional Memphis flights.

A memo sent to company employees on Tuesday says the winter Memphis schedule calls for a reduction to "more than 40 peak-day departures effective December 3."

The 126 positions to be cut are customer service and cargo jobs. A Delta spokesman told The Associated Press that number is in addition to the 230 jobs the company announced in June that it planned to cut this fall. The company also said at the time it would go from 96 flights per day down to 60.

Additionally, In-Flight Service will also close its Memphis flight attendant base.

The memo said the cuts are the result of continued poor revenue performance in the current schedule and in future bookings.

Retirement packages are being offered to eligible employees.
