CHATTANOOGA (AP) — Volkswagen is celebrating five years in Chattanooga.

The German-based company picked Chattanooga a half-decade ago as the site for its only U.S. auto assembly plant.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/12B4PT1 ) reported plant manager Frank Fischer said in a statement Monday that the Chattanooga plant is an "unqualified success."

The plant anchors the Enterprise South industrial park — an old military ordnance plant site.

The assembly plant is LEED Platinum-certified. It produces the Volkswagen Passat, and more than 150,000 of them were built in 2012.
