NASHVILLE (AP) — The libraries at Vanderbilt University are lending electronic tablets to students, faculty and staff.

Libraries dean Connie Vinita Dowell said a lot of students had been asking for tablets to be added to the list of circulated items.

In a news release, the university said it was now lending iPad2 tablets on a first-come basis for three days per checkout.

Vanderbilt Student Government President Maryclaire Manard said the organization worked with the libraries to prioritize making tablets available. Manard said the decision shows the libraries are adapting to new technologies students use to learn.

The libraries have circulated items as diverse as headphones, laptop computers and umbrellas for several years.
