Tennessee GOP rejects 2 primary election challenges

NASHVILLE (AP) - The executive committee of the Tennessee Republican Party has rejected challenges to two primary election results.

The panel on Friday decided to uphold the winners in the 9th Congressional District and in state House District 71. The full executive committee came to the decision that followed the unanimous recommendation of a subcommittee that reviewed the contest.

One challenge was brought by Shirley Curry, who lost to incumbent state Rep. Vance Dennis of Savannah by four votes. The other was raised by Charlotte Bergmann, who lost the Republican congressional primary in Memphis to George Flinn by more than 7,000 votes.

Party Chairman Chris Devaney praised the review process for being thorough and fair. Neither the subcommittee nor full panel meeting was open to the public.
