Travis Lloyd, formerly an associate in the Nashville office of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, has joined Bass, Berry & Sims PLC.
Lloyd is joining the firm’s health care practice as an associate and will provide counsel to clients within the health care industry on a wide range of regulatory matters. Lloyd has experience in fraud and abuse analysis, health information privacy and security compliance, healthcare facility licensure and accreditation, and provider enrollment and reimbursement.
He earned his law degree from the Georgia State University College of Law, has B.S. in psychology from Davidson College and a master’s degree in public health from Harvard University.
Village Real Estate named ‘Most Innovative’
Village Real Estate Services is the 2012 Most Innovative Brokerage or Franchise nationally according to Inman News.
Village was among eight finalists for the coveted position at Inman’s conference in San Francisco.
Village was recognized for its commitment to “recycle housing” by focusing on older, established neighborhoods and infill condo and loft developments. Additionally, Village’s commitment to improving the Greater Nashville area by philanthropic giving through The Village Fund was applauded by the organization.
Avondale Partners expands team
Avondale Partners has added Patrick Davis and David Hale to its wealth and asset management team and Jeff Black to its equity research team. Davis and Hale will focus primarily on the growth of Avondale Conquest, the firm’s long-short equity hedge fund, while Black will cover mall-based specialty retailers for the firm’s capital markets division.
Davis joins Avondale as a director responsible for growth of Avondale Conquest and other alternative products for the eastern half of the U.S. and Texas. Previously, he was president and CEO of F.P. Davis & Company, a boutique financial services firm he founded in 2004 catering to institutional investors and hedge fund managers.
Hale joins Avondale as a director responsible for growth of Avondale’s wealth and asset management divisions, including Avondale Conquest, for the West Coast. Previously, he was sole managing principal of DNH Capital, LLC, a boutique wealth and asset management firm in San Francisco. His 12-year career in the industry includes serving as a vice president, investments at UBS Financial Services and a vice president and wealth advisor at Morgan Stanley.
Black joins Avondale as a senior research analyst covering the consumer sector with a focus on mall-based specialty retailers. He brings more than a decade of retail-based research experience, most recently serving as a director and senior coverage analyst at Citigroup in New York where he led specialty retailing coverage. He has also held senior research positions at Barclays Capital and Lehman Brothers.
Pinson, Dubree co-chair Nashville Heart Walk
C. Wright Pinson, MBA., M.D., and Marilyn Dubree, MSN., R.N., of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, will be co-chairs of the 2012 Nashville Heart Walk, to be held Oct. 6 on the Vanderbilt University campus.
The Nashville Heart Walk is one of the largest fundraising walks in Tennessee with more than 10,000 day-of participants. The goal for this year’s event has been set at $1,750,000. Last year’s Nashville Heart Walk raised more than $1.5 million. The Heart Walk brings hundreds of corporate and community walk teams together with individual walkers, “lifestyle heroes” and survivors who have made positive changes to reduce heart disease and stroke risk factors.
Dr. Pinson serves as deputy vice-chancellor for health affairs at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and as the CEO of the Vanderbilt Health System, president of Vanderbilt Health Services and senior associate dean for clinical affairs.
Dubree is the executive chief nursing officer for VUMC, providing oversight for strategic initiatives and planning related to the provision of quality patient care for Vanderbilt University’s hospitals and clinics. She also serves as associate dean for clinical practice for the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing.

American Heart Association names four to board
Four Nashville residents have been named to the American Heart Association’s Greater Southeast Affiliate board of directors for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. The Greater Southeast Affiliate services the region covering Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Puerto Rico.
The four board members are:
Joey V. Barnett, Ph.D., president: Barnett is professor of pharmacology, medicine, pediatrics, and pathology, microbiology & immunology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. His research focuses on heart development and heart disease in children.
He has been affiliated with the organization for more than 20 years. In that time, he has served as president of the board of directors of the American Heart Association’s Greater Nashville market and has chaired several national and regional research committees for the association.
Keith B. Churchwell, M.D., president-elect: Churchwell is an associate professor of medicine and radiology and the executive director and chief medical officer for the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute in Nashville. He is a member of the American Association of Nuclear Cardiology, the Institute of Molecular Imaging, the American Society of Echocardiography and a fellow with the American College of Cardiology. Churchwell has been named to the list of “Best Doctors” by the Best Doctors in America and Best Doctors list by Castle-Connolly since 2001.
Deborah K. Pitts: Pitts has been a philanthropic leader and volunteer for the American Heart Association over the course of a decade and is the 2012-13 Greater Nashville chair of the Go Red For Women® movement. She is a founder and president of The Acorn Group, LLC, and previously held positions as the Executive Director of Home Technology Health Care, Inc.
H. Newton Williams: Williams was named the American Heart Association’s “Volunteer Advocate of the Year” for the nation in 2011. During his long career with Celanese Corporation, he served as president & CEO for Hoechst-Roussel Canada, Inc.; vice president and general manager for World-Wide Bulk Pharmaceuticals and vice president of state and federal government affairs in Washington, D.C.
LBMC’s Blackburn named to AICPA panel
Mark Blackburn, CPA and partner in the Accounting and Assurance Services Division of Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC, has been appointment to the executive committee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center.
The Center is a voluntary membership organization for firms that perform or are interested in performing ERISA employee benefit plan audits. The mission of the Center is to help CPAs meet the challenges of performing quality audits in this unique and complex area.
Blackburn has more than 18 years of plan audit experience. His experience includes defined contribution, defined benefit and health and welfare plan audits; both limited-scope and full scope audits for publicly traded and privately held businesses.
St. Thomas welcomes 2 to neurology team
Tennessee Neurology Specialists (TNS), an affiliate of Saint Thomas Health, has added neurologist Dr. Ikuko Laccheo and neuro hospitalist Dr. Frank Lafranchise to its medical staff.
Laccheo earned her degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kan. She completed her residency in neurology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, and received fellowship training in clinical neurophysiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She specializes in epilepsy.
Lafranchise earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and completed his neurology residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. He received fellowship training in cerebrovascular disease and stroke from Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston. Dr. Lafranchise is also a certified vascular neurologist and specializes in stroke.
Avenue Bank VP gets MBA scholarship
April Britt, learning manager and vice president of Avenue Bank, has been selected to receive the Business with a Purpose full-tuition scholarship for the MBA program at Lipscomb University.
The inaugural Business with a Purpose Scholarship was awarded by the Dean Institute for Corporate Governance and Integrity and the Lipscomb University College of Business as a follow-up to the Dean Institute’s Leadership and Integrity Awards presented this past March.
Seven Nashville companies were honored for having demonstrated a commitment to mission as well as business success. Each company was invited to submit one applicant for the Business with a Purpose Scholarship for this coming fall.

Lane named fellow of engineering council
Stephen Lane, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Smith Seckman Reid, Inc., has been inducted into the College of Fellows for the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). The honor recognizes an ACEC member who through their career has elevated the standards of the engineering profession.
Lane joined Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. in 1978, and assumed increasing responsibilities as a design engineer, project engineer and client manager. For 20 years he has been a member of the firm’s board of directors, helping lead the firm’s business units both in the U.S. and internationally. He also has designed some of the largest membrane water treatment plants in Tennessee.
Lane has also held several leadership positions with ACEC/Tennessee including President and National Director, and he is currently chairman of the organization’s Government Affairs Committee.
