NASHVILLE (AP) - Tennessee is getting more than $16 million to support highway safety.

Gov. Bill Haslam and state Transportation Commissioner John Schroer announced the grants on Thursday.

Officials say the money supports the mission of the Governor's Highway Safety Office, which is to save lives and reduce injuries on roadways through a partnership with other public and private organizations.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides the funding for the grants.
