NASHVILLE (AP) — Belmont University in Nashville is now a tobacco-free campus.
No one, not even visitors, can use tobacco products on the campus. According to WSMV-TV, the private liberal arts university spent a year educating students, staff and faculty on the new rules.
Over the past few months, the university offered students, staff and faculty who smoke ways they could quit, including discounted nicotine gum and counseling.
Campus security and residence life staff members will enforce the new rules. A violation could carry a fine and possibly a more severe punishment.
Students return to campus this weekend for the fall semester.
