Titans cornerback Chido Awuzie sidelined a couple of weeks by injured calf

NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee Titans cornerback Chidobe Awuzie will miss a couple of weeks of training camp with a calf injury, coach Brian Callahan announced Thursday.

The Titans also made a couple of roster moves. They added outside linebacker Shane Ray, a 2015 first-round pick of the Denver Broncos who took part in Tennessee's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. The Titans brought back center Corey Levin, a 2017 draft pick who played the past three seasons with them.

They cleared room by waiving undrafted rookie running back Dillon Johnson on Thursday.

Outside linebacker Harold Landry has missed the first two days with an illness. Callahan said Landry will be worked back onto the field slowly once he returns.

Awuzie was one of the Titans' big free agent signees this offseason. Tennessee signed the cornerback away from the Cincinnati Bengals in the offseason only to see him leave Wednesday's opening day of training camp before the end of the final period.

"Chido is going to miss some time with a calf injury. It'll be a couple of weeks, probably. He's out here, but he's not practicing," Callahan said.

Awuzie is one half of the Titans' revamped cornerback position along with L'Jarius Sneed.

The Titans have Sneed on a management plan monitoring just how much work he gets in camp. Sneed, acquired in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs, was on the practice field Thursday. He didn't take part in any 7-on-7 or team periods.

"In Kansas City, I didn't do camp at all, but here I'm trying to work into camp and get into it," Sneed said. "They have a plan for me. They have days where I did what I did today, and days I just practice. It's a pretty good schedule they've got me on."

Awuzie's injury, coupled with Sneed's limited reps, opens up snaps for backup cornerbacks Tre Avery along with rookies Jarvis Brownlee and Gabe Jeudy-Lally to get more work and improve their chances of earning a roster spot.

Ray, 31, has not played an NFL game since the 2018 season, though he spent time last season on the Buffalo Bills practice squad after previously playing in the Canadian Football League. He has 14 career sacks.
