NASHVILLE (AP) — The chief of staff of a top Tennessee Republican says he is "not aware" of the elected official meeting with three women who have accused a separate lawmaker of sexual misconduct.

A video recording released last week showed House Speaker Glen Casada saying the women "came into my office and spoke" when asked if he had listened to the accusers.

Cade Cothren told The Associated Press on Monday Casada has met with many people on the issue but wasn't aware if those included the women who have come forward to accuse Rep. David Byrd of sexual misconduct.

The Tennessean reports the women deny meeting with Casada.

Byrd has been accused by the women of sexual misconduct when he was their high school basketball coach nearly three decades ago.
