MURFREESBORO (AP) — The Tennessee Comptroller's Office says Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold violated laws after investigating allegations that he profited from the sale of e-cigarettes to inmates.

The Daily News Journal reports the comptroller said in a release Wednesday that Arnold and Administration Chief Joe Russell broke multiple laws, policies and procedures by concealing their relationship with the company, JailCigs. JailCigs is based in Marietta, Georgia, and is owned by Arnold's uncle, John Vanderveer, and Russell.

Arnold, Russell and Vanderveer face a 14-count federal indictment and await a jury trial scheduled for Feb. 7 in Nashville.

Investigators say Arnold failed to disclose his conflict of interest with JailCigs even though he and his wife received more than $66,000 from the company from December 2013 through April 2015.
