NASHVILLE (AP) — Mayor Megan Barry says she will push for a $12 million undertaking to equip all Nashville police officers with body cameras.

The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/2dVDJ6s) reports that Barry says she will make the request when she proposes the city of Nashville's 2016-2017 budget next spring.

On Sunday, Barry told the advocacy group Nashville Organized for Action and Hope that the cameras will help improve relations between residents and police.

Michael Cass, a spokesman for Barry, says the cameras will carry an additional, yet-to-be-determined operating cost.

Don Aaron, spokesman for Metro Nashville Police Chief Steve Anderson, said the chief's discussions with the mayor about the request began weeks ago.

Aaron says the Nashville department has been observing other agencies' experiences with the cameras.
