Regional Transit Authority approves nearly $6B transit plan

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Regional Transportation Authority is moving forward with plans to build a nearly $6 billion mass transit system aimed at improving traffic in Middle Tennessee.

Multiple news outlets report that the RTA's board of directors voted unanimously Wednesday to adopt the $5.97 billion nMotion transit plan, which would take place over the next 25 years. The plan features various transit projects, including rail, both within Davidson County and connecting Nashville to outlying counties.

The Metro Transit Authority board is scheduled to hear the recommendations on Thursday.

The RTA has been taking public comments about the nMotion plan for the last 30 days.

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry said she would like to see the timeline for the plan moved up. She says officials are still working to figure out funding.
