NASHVILLE (AP) - Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee has shuttered four of its career centers.

WPLN-FM (http://bit.ly/2ciYWlQ) reports that the nonprofit employer on Friday closed career centers in Clarksville, Gallatin, Jackson and the Melrose area of Nashville. Goodwill has about two dozen other career centers in the region.

Goodwill blamed a rise in competition from online sales and consignment stores for declining revenue at its thrift stores. The stores fund the nonprofit's primary mission of job training for the disabled and people with barriers to employment. None of Goodwill's retail stores is closing.

The closures have so far caused 14 of Goodwill's more than 2,000 Middle Tennessee employees to lose their jobs.

Goodwill spokesman Chris Fletcher says the closures will allow the nonprofit to streamline its donated goods operations and facilitate future growth.
