Gov. Haslam names Young to Nashville chancery court
NASHVILLE (AP) — Republican Gov. Bill Haslam has named Bill Young to fill a vacancy on the chancery court bench in Nashville.
Young has been associate state attorney general since 2014, where his responsibilities included serving as a liaison to the Legislature and executive branch. He has also been involved in special litigation and other projects assigned by Attorney General Herbert Slatery.
Young was previously solicitor general under Slatery's predecessor, Bob Cooper, responsible for appellate litigation and legal opinions requested by state officials. He has also worked as the administrative director for the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts.
Haslam cited what he called Young's "impressive record of achievement" in appointing him to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Chancellor Carol McCoy.
Young's first day will be Sept. 1.
