Tennessee sales tax holiday runs through Sunday

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee's annual sales tax holiday is underway this weekend as parents prepare for children to return to school.

Eligible items include clothing and school supplies costing less than $100 and computers sold for less than $1,500. The sales tax holiday began Friday morning and runs until midnight on Sunday.

This year's sales tax holiday is a week earlier than last year because of a law change aimed at making it more convenient for parents to stock up on supplies before the start of the school year.

Tennessee's state sales tax rate is 7 percent, while local governments can add up to another 2.75 percent.
