Tennessee economic development chief going to Japan

NASHVILLE (AP) - Officials say Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd will lead the state's delegation at an economic development meeting in Japan.

Officials say Boyd will attend the annual joint meeting of the Southeast U.S./Japan and Japan-U.S. Southeast associations in Tokyo from Sept. 20-22.

The conference of the two associations celebrates longstanding economic and cultural ties between Japan and the southeast U.S. The meeting will include Japan's top CEOs, corporate executives and government officials alongside governors and economic development leaders from southeastern states.

Tennessee companies exported $1.9 billion worth of products to Japan last year.

Boyd's trip comes after a 10-day visit that state economic officials and Gov. Bill Haslam made to Japan, China and Korea earlier this year.
