New rules in place for Tennessee attorneys working as in-house counsel

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NASHVILLE (AP) — Any attorney who is working as in-house counsel in Tennessee for a corporation doing business here and does not have a Tennessee law license faces a July 1 deadline to register with the Board of Law Examiners.

The deadline marks the end of an amnesty period granted by the Tennessee Supreme Court after changes to rules of professional conduct and attorney licensing policies went into effect in January.

Any attorney who fails to register faces discipline and a bar examination in order to continue practicing in Tennessee.

After July 1, any in-house counsel starting work here without a Tennessee law license will have 180 days to register with the Board of Law Examiners.
