NASHVILLE (AP) — The nonprofit foundation of First Tennessee Bank is giving $500,000 to fund a program that helps at-risk youth in Nashville gain admission to and graduate from college.

The money, a press release from the First Tennessee Foundation says, will go toward a program that combines in-school support at Stratford and Maplewood high schools and follows students with mentoring on college campuses. The high school program will help kids prepare and apply for college. Mentors will later work with the students to overcome challenges they may face after getting into a university so they can have a successful college experience and graduate.

The program will be administered by the Martha O'Bryan Center, a nonprofit, anti-poverty organization based in Music City.
