NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Bar Association is asking judges to subscribe to the Tennessee Fair Judicial Campaign Code of Conduct leading up to state elections in August.

The organization says three state Supreme Court justices and seven intermediate appellate judges are facing retention elections, and 15 trial judges and additional local judges are on the ballot.

Bar Association President Bill Harbison says in judicial elections, judges aren't allowed to offer promises or pledges about how they will rule and are expected to reach impartial decisions on a case-by-case basis.

A Bar Association news release said more than 116 judges subscribed to the code during the 2014 election cycle.
