Clinton voices support for UAW at Tennessee Volkswagen plant

NASHVILLE (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is taking to Twitter to voice support for the United Auto Workers union at Volkswagen's lone U.S. plant in Tennessee.

Skilled-trades workers at the Chattanooga plant in December voted in favor of UAW representation for the group of about 160 works, but Volkswagen has refused to bargain with them because it argues that labor decisions should also involve the remaining 1,400 hourly workers at the facility.

Clinton said in the tweet that the Volkswagen workers are "raising their voices for the rights they deserve. VW should meet them at the table."

The National Labor Relations Board has ruled that election by the smaller group of workers is proper, but Volkswagen has vowed to seek an appeal in federal court.
