Riggs Davie elects Price as member

Price

Judith Price has been elected as a member of Riggs Davie PLC. Price is a corporate and health care attorney whose practice covers a wide variety of business matters, including entity formation, governance, employee matters, contracting, and transactions, particularly in the health care space.

Prior to joining Riggs Davie, Price led the M&A team for Delek U.S. Holdings. She served as in-house counsel at HealthTrust Purchasing Group and Emdeon (now Change Healthcare) for a total of eight years. Before transitioning in-house, she practiced corporate and securities law at Bass, Berry & Sims in Nashville and Shaw, Pittman, Potts & Trowbridge in Washington, D.C.

She graduated from Yale University, Vanderbilt Law School, the Owen Graduate School of Management and the Scarlett Leadership Institute.

Health care attorney joins Butler Snow

Angela C. Youngberg has joined Butler Snow’s Nashville office, practicing in the firm’s health care regulatory and transactions group.

Youngberg works with hospitals, physicians, long-term care providers, surgery centers and telehealth and telemedicine companies. Youngberg has experience in the formation, acquisition, and sale of health care businesses. In addition, she has represented clients in patient privacy matters relating to HIPAA and regularly advises on licensing, staffing, coding and billing and certificate of need matters.

Youngberg earned her bachelor’s degree and J.D. from the University of Memphis. She is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and previously served as chair of the organization’s health law section.

Moses named fellow of American Bar Foundation

Marlene Eskind Moses, a founding manager of MTR Family Law, PLLC, has been selected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Established in 1955, The Fellows is an honorary organization of attorneys, judges, law faculty and legal scholars who have been elected by their peers to become members. Membership is limited to less than one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction.

Recently named president of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL) USA Chapter, Moses is a past-president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) and was awarded the organization’s Outstanding Fellow of the Year Award.

She is a Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Association Foundation and the Nashville Bar Association Foundation. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers and serves on its executive committee.

She is a past president of the Tennessee Supreme Court Historical Society, the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners, and Lawyers Association for Women. She is a former vice president of the Nashville Bar Association. She has served on the Tennessee Bar Association’s Family Law Code Commission.

Moses graduated from Tulane University with a degree and masters of social work. In 2012, she received the Distinguished Alumnae Award from the Newcomb Alumnae Association of Tulane University. Moses earned her law degree from the Nashville School of Law and has been honored with the Nashville School of Law Distinguished Alumni Award.

Paterno named Emerging Leader by M&A Advisor

Bass, Berry & Sims member Tatjana Paterno has been named by The M&A Advisor among the winners of the Emerging Leaders Awards in the Legal Advisor category. Paterno was chosen for her accomplishments and experience from a pool of nominees by an independent judging panel of distinguished business leaders, and was the only individual from Tennessee recognized this year.

The Emerging Leaders Awards recognize professionals under the age of 40 for their accomplishments in M&A, financing and restructuring, and aim to promote mentorship and professional development among emerging business leaders.

Since the beginning of her legal career, Paterno has represented public and private companies in M&A transactions valued in excess of $17 billion, and securities transactions valued in excess of $2.5 billion, in the aggregate. In addition to her M&A and securities practice, she advises clients on disclosure, executive compensation and governance issues, as well as shareholder proposals and challenges from activist shareholders. She is actively involved in the American Bar Association’s Mergers & Acquisitions Committee.

Crichton Group promotes Madison, Weidman

The Crichton Group has elevated Austin Madison, a partner, to senior vice president, and Blake Weidman to partner and vice president.

As senior vice president, Madison will continue to manage and lead the employee benefits department. Prior to this position, he served as vice president and played a crucial role in helping clients understand the impact of healthcare reform.

Madison joined the agency in 2007. In addition to his experience in employee benefits insurance, he has expertise in captive insurance, life and disability insurance, wellness and population health management.

Wiedman

He earned a degree in corporate communications from the University of Kentucky.

As partner and vice president, Weidman will help lead the agency’s risk management services with a focus on cybersecurity. Previously, he served as a commercial insurance advisor for the agency. Weidman’s expertise lies in private equity, technology, health care and law firms. Weidman joined the agency in 2011.

Weidman earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in finance from The University of Mississippi.

Pate joins PYA as chief of business development

Jeff Pate has joined Pershing Yoakley & Associates, P.C. as chief business development officer for the corporation and its affiliated companies.

The 32-year-old, Knoxville-based firm with offices in Nashville, Atlanta, Kansas City and Tampa Bay, is ranked as the ninth largest privately held health care consulting company in the country.

In his new role, Pate will focus on helping to further grow PYA’s core healthcare business as well as the offerings of three of its affiliated entities – Realty Trust Group (RTG), PYA Analytics (PYAA), and Healthcare Horizons Consulting Group.

Pate, who is a native of Nashville, most recently served as executive vice president of business development for Aegis Health Group. Before that, he was executive vice president at W Squared.

LifePoint Health names Deese Eastern Group CFO

Conrad Deese, who most recently served as vice president of finance for LifePoint Health’s Eastern Group, has been promoted to Eastern Group chief financial officer.

In this newly added position, Deese will work closely with James R. (Jamie) Carter, COO of the Eastern Group, guiding strategic initiatives and driving financial operations for newly acquired hospitals, as well as other LifePoint and Duke LifePoint facilities in western North Carolina and Virginia.

Tom Butler, Jr., will continue in his role as Eastern Group CFO, working closely with Eastern Group president Jeff Seraphine to guide the Company’s facilities in Michigan, eastern North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Deese joined LifePoint Health in 2014 as vice president of finance for the Eastern Group. Prior to LifePoint, Deese spent nine years in various leadership positions with Health Management Associates, including group chief financial officer/VP of operations finance.

Deese holds a degree in business administration, management and communications from Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina, and an MBA from the University of Florida.

Van Ostran receives top industry award

Stan Van Ostran, vice president and chief financial officer of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, was recently honored as the 2016 Medium Hub Finance Professional of the Year award by the Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA), a leading industry trade association representing local, regional and state governing bodies that own and operate commercial airports in the United States and Canada.

Van Ostran, who joined MNAA in 2008, helped MNAA achieve significant milestones last year, including a new airline use-and-lease agreement and a $200 million bond issue with the lowest interest rate of any “A” rated airport.

Van Ostran was presented the award during a recent gala dinner at the 2016 ACI-NA Business of Airports Conference in Orlando, Fla., which was attended by nearly 500 commercial management, human resource and finance executives from the North American airport industry.

Veterinary association announces executive board

The Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) recently named its 2016 Executive Board, with Joe Ed Conn, DVM, Belle Meade Animal Hospital, selected as president-elect and Margaret (Midge) Phillips, DVM, Animal Allergy & Dermatology, Nashville, as secretary/treasurer.

Other newly elected officers are:

President - Susan Moon, DVM, Brooks Road Animal Hospital, Memphis;

Vice president – Russell Reel, DVM, Morristown Animal Hospital, Morristown;

Immediate Past President - Maben Thompson, DVM, Upper Cumberland Veterinary Clinic, Crossville.

Six members-at-large were also elected to represent East, West and Middle Tennessee. Midstate representatives are John Bennett, DVM, Equine Services, LLC, Shelbyville, and Mandy Hagan Willis, DVM, Middle TN Veterinary Service, Morrison.

First Freedom’s Owens selected as board member

J.B. Owens, CPA, senior vice president and director of commercial banking for First Freedom Bank, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of both the Southeastern School of Commercial Lending and the Southeastern School of Advanced Commercial Lending.

The Southeastern School Boards serve as an extension of the Tennessee Bankers Association’s board of directors and specifically oversees the administration of these two commercial lending schools on behalf of the Tennessee Bankers Association.

The Southeastern Schools provide a solid foundation on which to build a banking career. Graduates develop the skills that will bring them success in upper-level management positions and forge the networks that will serve them throughout their career.

The Southeastern School of Commercial Lending is an intensive, one-week school that concentrates on all aspects of commercial lending.
