Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions to headline Rutherford GOP event
MURFREESBORO (AP) - Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, the chairman of presidential candidate Donald Trump's national security advisory team, is scheduled to headline a Rutherford County Republican Party fundraiser next month.
Sessions endorsed Trump shortly before the Super Tuesday primary in March in which the New York businessman easily carried both Alabama and Tennessee.
Donna Rowland, the chairwoman of the Rutherford County GOP, said Tuesday that the invitation was based on Sessions' role in the Senate and not related to his role in the Trump campaign. Rowland said she expects Sessions to speak at the May 22 event about "unity within the party."
Sessions was the featured speaker in the Tennessee Republican Party's annual Statesmen's Dinner in 2009.
