WASHINGTON (AP) — Opposition from top Senate Democrats has stalled two of the president's nominees to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The nominees waffled on whether they support requiring publicly-traded corporations to disclose political spending.

Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Charles Schumer of New York led the opposition to the SEC nominees. That led Banking Committee Chairman Richard Shelby of Alabama to postpone a vote set for Thursday.

Schumer says both nominees are "fence-sitting" on whether to force corporations like Koch Industries to reveal their political giving. Republicans succeeded in blocking the proposal through in last year's catch-all spending bill.

The nominees are Democrat Lisa Fairfax and Republican Hester Peirce.
