NASHVILLE (AP) — Gov. Bill Haslam's office says he has appointed J. Ross Dyer to the western section of the Court of Criminal Appeals.

In a statement Thursday, Haslam said Dyer's appointment will require confirmation by the General Assembly. If approved, Dyer would replace Roger Page, who recently became a Tennessee Supreme Court justice.

The 43-year-old Dyer has been the chief counsel for Shelby County since 2014, serving as the top legal adviser to the county mayor, county commission and other officials.

Dyer was senior counsel and managing attorney for the Memphis office of the Tennessee Attorney General from 2004 to 2014. He also served as assistant attorney general in the criminal justice division of the Nashville office of the state Attorney General from 1998 to 2004.
