College campus crimes in Tennessee drop 7 percent in 2015

NASHVILLE (AP) — State statistics show a 27 percent increase in forcible sexual offenses on Tennessee college campuses last year.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's annual college crime study found that crime reported by state colleges and universities fell 7 percent to 5,945 last year from 6,394 in 2014. About 29 percent of the 2015 offenses were categorized as larceny or theft.

There were 119 forcible sex offenses reported last year, up from 94 in 2014 and 53 in 2013. The number of reported rapes increased from 51 in 2014 to 56 in 2015.

Drug-related offenses fell 8.3 percent to 836 last year. Liquor-law offenses rose by nearly 26 percent, while driving under the influence offenses decreased by about 11 percent.
