NASHVILLE (AP) — After a joint convention of the Tennessee General Assembly completed its first ever confirmation vote for new state Supreme Court Justice Roger A. Page, the jurist told a reporter he expected it would be a few months before he was sworn in to the bench.

After telling the Nashville Post that he wanted to wait until he had time to assemble lawmakers, friends and colleagues for a ceremony in West Tennessee, Page walked across the street to Supreme Court chamber and promptly took his oath to join the high court.

The Commercial Appeal newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1OtiNcn) that while such ceremonies are generally announced in advance, there were no members of the public or media at the Monday evening event.

A spokeswoman said the court wanted Page to join quickly.
