NASHVILLE (AP) — Two lawmakers have filed a bill seeking to stop a natural gas compressor from being built in a Nashville community.

WPLN-FM reports (http://bit.ly/1SDGWmO) that Republican Sen. Steve Dickerson and Democratic Rep. Bo Mitchell's legislation would ban compressors from being built within one mile of a park.

Pipeline operator Kinder Morgan wants to build its compressor in Joelton, less than a mile from Paradise Ridge Park in the northwestern corner of Davidson County.

The 60,000-horsepower facility would boost the amount of natural gas that could be pumped through the pipeline. Similar compressors are planned in West Virginia and Kentucky.

Opponents say the compressor would be noisy, emit toxic fumes and should require an upgrade to pipes to keep them from rupturing under the higher load.

Federal regulators are reviewing the proposals.
