NASHVILLE (AP) — Republican state Rep. David Hawk of Greeneville is seeking support for a proposal to have Tennessee lawmakers add a September session every other year.

Hawk told his Republican colleagues on Tuesday that the current schedule of only meeting from January to April leaves most of the year without input from lawmakers on important state issues.

There have been proposals in recent years for lawmakers to hold so-called veto-override sessions following their normal adjournment in order to restore any bills turned back by the governor.

Override sessions would be unusual because Republicans control both the legislative and the executive branches of government.
