Belmont law graduate honored for pro bono work

Sara Page, a 2015 graduate of the Belmont University College of Law, will be honored with the state’s top award for law student pro bono work at a luncheon ceremony in Nashville on Jan. 23.

Page is being recognized for her work with numerous pro bono organizations including Belmont Legal Aid Society, Justice for Our Neighbors and Magdalene Clinic.

The Tennessee Bar Association also will recognize Clarksville lawyer Elizabeth “Libby” Sykes with the Harris Gilbert Pro Bono Volunteer of the Year Award and Knoxville lawyer David R. Yoder with the Ashley T. Wiltshire Public Service Attorney of the Year Award.

The Law Student Volunteer of the Year Award is given annually to a Tennessee law school student or recent graduate who performs outstanding volunteer service to one or more organizations providing legal representation to the poor.

Entrepreneurs’ Organization adds 17 members

The Nashville chapter of Entrepreneurs’ Organization – the fourth-largest EO chapter in the world – announced today the addition of 17 new members to its group of Middle Tennessee business owners.

Since the beginning of 2015, EO Nashville has welcomed a total of 31 new members to its chapter. The addition of the 17 newest members bring a combined $107.9 million in annual sales and 615 employees to the group and grow EO Nashville’s community of entrepreneurs to 172 total members. With the new members, EO Nashville businesses now boast a combined $1.62 billion in annual sales and more than 8,500 full-time employees. To join the organization, an entrepreneur must be a founder, co-founder, owner or controlling shareholder of a company with gross annual sales exceeding $1 million.

NPT producer Wei earns broadcasting fellowship

Linda Wei, manager of digital strategies at Nashville Public Television, is one of eight public media producers selected by Next Generation Leadership for its inaugural class of senior editorial fellows.

The new professional development initiative is supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and designed to help expand diversity among senior and executive producers and other content development leaders across public media nationwide.

Next Generation Leadership is jointly led by WGBH Boston and The Partnership, a non-profit organization with nearly three decades of experience in executive training. The eight participants are a diverse group of mid-career professionals working in television, radio, and on digital platforms, selected from over 90 applicants at more than 50 public media stations and organizations.

The year-long program begins January 25, and includes professional enrichment, leadership training, mentoring to examine opportunities and barriers in the field, and strategic training to succeed in today’s complex media landscape. Participants will receive skills development, coaching, and national networking experiences.

Fellows will remain in their current position throughout the year but will begin the program with a week of leadership training in Boston. Following this orientation, participants will be assigned to a production project, working closely with executive producers, and will dedicate four separate weeks to field work.

Wei develops companion web sites for all major NPT projects, including NPT Reports: Aging Matters and Next Door Neighbors. She also produces interstitial programming such as A Word on Words and ArtQuest. She will embed at WGBH’s Frontline series.

KraftCPAs’ Pruitt selected to national task force

Gina Pruitt, the member in charge of the risk assurance and advisory services practice of Nashville-based KraftCPAs PLLC, was recently selected to serve on the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) National Service Organization Control (SOC) Task Force. The group is responsible for determining updates and changes to the SOC standards, audit guides, and the peer review questionnaire.

With more than 25 years of accounting experience, Pruitt provides not only SOC reviews, but also IT audit and consulting, risk management, internal audits, litigation support, compliance, Sarbanes-Oxley audits, network vulnerability, penetration testing, cybersecurity assessments and social engineering.

Pruitt earned her degree in accounting from Tennessee Technological University. In addition to being a certified public accountant, Pruitt is also a certified information systems auditor, certified in risk and information systems control, a certified quality analyst, a certified information technology professional, and an AICPA SOC Peer Reviewer, among several other credentials.

Pruitt’s other involvement includes serving on the AICPA board of examiners, the Institute of Internal Auditors board of governors, the Tennessee Performing Arts Center technology committee, and the Tennessee Technological University accounting advisory board.

Regions expands banking groups

Regions has announced the hiring of four new additions to its corporate and commercial banking groups. Industry veterans Jim Sloan, Mike Platz, Wesley Payne and David Zickler join the Regions team in Middle Tennessee.

With 28 years of experience in the corporate banking industry, Sloan joins Regions as managing director in the Corporate Banking group.

Platz brings 18 years of financial leadership experience to his new role as senior vice president and team leader for the Commercial Banking group at Regions.

Regions also hired Payne as the vice president and commercial middle market relationship manager. A Nashville native, Payne has 12 years of banking experience within the local market.

Zickler joins Regions as a corporate banking associate. He has three-years of experience raising debt and equity capital across a broad range of industries for both public and private companies.
