State official says repair of 10 Nashville bridges complete

NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee's transportation chief says the state's Fast Fix 8 bridge repair project on Interstate 40 around Nashville has been completed.

According to The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1NxuNOg ), the project tore down and replaced 10 bridges and repaired four roads over the course of 10 weekend closures. The project was finished seven months ahead of the expected June 2016 completion date.

Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer said Friday that the bridge replacements differed from similar state projects because an "accelerated bridge construction method" was used.

Construction began in April when Kiewit Infrastructure Co. was awarded a contract to replace the bridges. The project cost $62 million for the removal and replacement of four twin bridges along I-40. The bridges were built in 1968 and showed advanced signs of deterioration before the project.
