Public input sought on Nashville homeless camps

NASHVILLE (AP) - The Metro Homelessness Commission is accepting public input on the future of homeless encampments in Nashville.

The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1PS6gSS) reports that the commission has released a two-page document written after members on Monday discussed the possibility of a city-sanctioned encampment.

The brainstorming meeting was brought about by Metro Parks and Recreation's attempts to clear out a tent community near Fort Negley and the Adventure Science Center. After six citations were issued to those staying there, Mayor Megan Barry issued a statement Tuesday that said police force is a last resort and she doesn't anticipate the need for arrests or criminal citations.

Comments can be submitted to the commission's assistant director, Judith Tackett, at [email protected] or dropped off at the front desk of Metro Social Services by noon on Oct. 8.
