Ney

House Speaker Beth Harwell has appointed Paul Ney, a partner in the Nashville law firm of Patterson Intellectual Property Law, P.C., to the LaunchTN board of directors.

Ney is a registered patent attorney with experience in law and public service that includes serving as director of the Nashville Davidson County Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development, deputy general counsel for the U.S. Department of Defense, acting general counsel and principal deputy general counsel of the Department of the Navy and as a partner in the law firm of Trauger, Ney & Tuke.

Ney earned his law degree and M.B.A. at Vanderbilt University and his undergraduate degree at Cornell University.

Bone McAllester Norton expands entertainment law

Bone McAllester Norton PLLC has added two veteran entertainment attorneys to its Nashville firm.

Suzanne Kessler, who previously served as an entertainment and transactional intellectual property attorney and consultant, and Hank Adam Locklin, the former senior adviser for music and entertainment industries for the State of Tennessee, have joined the firm, expanding its entertainment law practice to four attorneys. They bring with them a combined total of 40 years of experience.

Kessler advises both traditional and new media clients, including record labels, recording artists, artist managers, film and television production companies and independent producers. Kessler previously served as executive director of the Nashville Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (the GRAMMY organization); as vice president of Business Development and director of legal affairs at Universal Music Group; and as an attorney in private practice with an entertainment boutique law firm in Beverly Hills.

After earning a bachelor’s degree from Brown University, she earned both a masters in communication (documentary film production) and a law degree from Stanford University. Kessler is a Class of 2005 Leadership Music graduate and currently serves as a board member for W.O. Smith Music School. She is also an adjunct professor at Vanderbilt Law School’s intellectual property program.

Locklin is an entertainment attorney who focuses on the creative and transactional ends of the music and entertainment industries. His executive experience relates to trade association management and administration, recording agreements, music production, artist/songwriter management, music publishing, sound recording licensing, touring and artist management.

He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law and is a Class of 2008 Leadership Music graduate.

LBMC selects Brummett to lead support group

Brummett

LBMC, an accounting and business consulting firm, has named Joshua P. Brummett, CPA/ABV/CFF, as partner in LBMC’s Valuation and Litigation Support Services Division.

Brummett specializes in health care valuation and serves as the practice leader for Compensation Valuation Services for LBMC. His experience includes valuations for employment, call-coverage, medical director services and collections guarantees/subsidies.

He graduated with a degree in business administration and master’s of accountancy from Belmont University. He is a CPA and holds the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) certifications.

Lifepoint Health appoints 3 to senior leadership roles

Morrow

LifePoint Health has appointed three to new positions at the LifePoint Health Support Center in Brentwood. Kristi Morrow has been named senior vice president, integrated revenue management; Vanessa Peters has been named vice president, nursing and clinical operations, Central Group; and Jason Ross has been named vice president, population health.

Morrow is responsible for the overall net revenue and payer strategy for LifePoint Health. Her role includes developing revenue cycle processes and reimbursement programs that enable the company to navigate the ongoing evolution of sophisticated payer models in the healthcare industry and effectively respond to consumers’ financial needs.

Peters

She joins LifePoint from Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), where she served as vice president of finance, strategic pricing and analytics. Prior to HCA, Morrow was vice president of domestic operations finance for Healthways, Inc.

Peters will work closely with her markets to improve overall patient safety, service and quality, and also will assist with clinical operations assessments within all LifePoint facilities.

Ross

She has more than 30 years of nursing experience and has held interim chief nursing officer roles with LifePoint since 2012, most recently at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City, La. Prior to joining LifePoint, she served as CNO at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte, W. Va., and also at Memorial Hospital of Salem County in Salem, N.J.

Ross will be responsible for providing leadership in developing and executing LifePoint’s population health management strategy and care model.

He joins LifePoint from Healthcare Bluebook, Inc., a health care price and quality transparency company in Nashville, where he most recently served as senior vice president of provider and consumer solutions.

Rathmell to lead Vanderbilt Center for Immunobiology

J. Tathmell

Jeffrey Rathmell, Ph.D., has been recruited to Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) to lead a new Center for Immunobiology, a structure supported by the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, the Department of Medicine and Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC).

He has been named a professor of pathology, microbiology and immunology and will serve as co-leader of the Host Tumor Interactions Research Program at VICC.

Rathmell comes to Vanderbilt from Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina, where he served as associate professor of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology and of Immunology in the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute, as well as director of Graduate Studies of Pharmacology.

Rathmell has a distinguished career as a teacher and mentor for many young investigators and is in demand internationally as a scientific lecturer. He has authored more than 90 research articles and serves as a member of the editorial board for several scientific journals.

His work at Vanderbilt will focus on the field of immunometabolism and how nutrient and metabolic pathways can influence immune responses in normal and diseased settings.

K. Tathmell

Also, W. Kimryn Rathmell, M.D., Ph.D., Alexander Professor for Translational Science and associate director for Training and Education at Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of North Carolina (UNC), Chapel Hill, has been named director of Vanderbilt’s Division of Hematology and Oncology. She will assume the role on Sept. 1.

Rathmell is a physician-scientist whose research focuses on the genetic and molecular signals that drive renal cell carcinomas (kidney cancers). She specializes in the treatment of patients with rare and complex kidney cancers as well as prostate, bladder and testicular cancer.

Her research program includes development of animal models, innovative imaging strategies and novel therapeutics. At UNC, she also served as a director for the Medical Scientist Training Program and led the mentoring activities of the Hematology and Oncology Division and the Lineberger Cancer Center.

At Vanderbilt, Rathmell will continue to care for patients with genitourinary malignancies in addition to continuing research in her laboratory at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC).

Session

Donna Session, M.D., has been named to direct Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, which treats problems related to reproductive medicine including infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian disease, congenital uterine anomalies, fibroids and risk of genetic disorders in offspring.

Session comes to Vanderbilt from the Emory Reproductive Center in Atlanta, where she served as chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Emory University School of Medicine and program director of ART (Assistive Reproductive Technology).
