Nashville voters head to polls today to choose new mayor

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NASHVILLE (AP) - Voters in Nashville go to the polls Thursday to select their next mayor after a campaign marked by heavy partisanship and negative advertising.

Councilwoman Megan Barry has cast herself as the strong progressive voice in the race, while hedge fund manager David Fox has touted his fiscal conservatism.

Both campaigns have accused each other of unfair tactics. Fox has bristled at Barry's criticism of his brother, George Fox, giving $1 million to an independent super PAC to spend on the race. Barry has criticized Fox for targeting blog posts made by her husband.

The state Democratic Party has taken the rare step of sending mailers and running ads attacking Fox in what is officially a nonpartisan race.

If Barry wins, she'd become Nashville's first female mayor.
