NASHVILLE (AP) — A Nashville weaver is traveling to Wales, where she is the only U.S. applicant selected in a competition of items made from Welsh wool.

Allison Volek-Shelton and about three dozen other designers have been invited to a private viewing of the submissions Friday in Wales, expected to be attended by Britain's Prince Charles.

A statement from Volek-Shelton's family says she has been weaving for almost 10 years, including professionally for the last five.

Others selected are from Scotland, Wales, England, Northern Ireland, Australia and the Netherlands.

Volek-Shelton produced an oversized herringbone V-neck top with wide sleeves. She says she spent nearly 30 hours on the piece, including measuring yarn, dying, weaving, hand washing and sewing.

The challenge is a project of Cambrian Mountains Wool, which is supported by the Cambrian Mountains Initiative, whose president is Prince Charles.
